I love Seth Godin. No, I’m not ready to get a room and I don’t have the T-shirt. But if he ever made them I sure hope he sends me one. In the interest of full disclosure Seth and I have a bit of history together;
“I’ve read 3 or 4 books written by Seth Godin and liked them a lot. I have seen him speak several times and found his speeches witty and captivating. I read his blog almost every day. I’m on the email list. Heck, before he was really famous I even met him and shook his hand. We had a cup of coffee together. Well at least we were both holding coffee cups as we met in passing in a crowded hallway…”
If you’d like to read the entire post read it at The Yaffetidbits Blog. I like his work because he always seems to boil his thoughts, our thoughts, my thoughts down to the most simple and basic concepts. After you’re done reading you want to slap your forehead and say…DOH!
2 recent posts by Seth will help any creative person start to figure out the proper blend of Social Media and traditional sales methods;
Don’t get immersed and then buried in the tactics of Social Media. Where and how to connect with prospects and clients is not nearly as important as asking first, “Why”. What exactly are we trying to accomplish? What’s our goal? Our strategy? Then decide the “How”.
Remember the phrase “Keep a Stiff Upper Lip”? Maybe what that really means is keep a positive mental attitude? It’s very easy to get confused when we’re learning new software or discouraged trying to learn new techniques. How does one set up a blog? Typepad, WordPress or Blogger? How many articles? How often? What should be used for a Twitter name? How to personalize my page? RSS or email? Both? What’s RSS? How to find prospects? How do they find us? There’s an avalanche of “new stuff” to learn and we’re going to get discouraged. But, we’ll be successful if we have an attitude.
The attitude of success.
