The creative business is going through massive changes. DOH! Doesn’t matter if you’re the client, agency or supplier we are all being affected. If all you do is rely on the technology to one-up and stay ahead of the competition you’re doomed. Take Amazon and the Kindle for example. They’ve owned the eBook space for a short period of time. But that’s about to change with major new introductions by several other big players. What could possibly help Amazon stay ahead? Faster, better and cheaper eBook readers? Sure, that’s one answer. All that does though is make it an arms race. It won’t create a sustainable competitive advantage.
Here’s 2 better ideas paraphrased from Seth Godin;
- Build a better brand (shorthand for relationships, beliefs, trust, permission and word of mouth).
- Create a constantly innovating organization where extraordinary employees thrive.
