Clear the Mechanism

In the movie “For Love of the Game” when Kevin Costner wants to clear his mind and rid it of distractions prior to throwing a pitch he uses the phrase “Clear the mechanism”. The distractions melt away and he’s able to focus his energy. For most of us it’s not quite that simple.

 If you’re a left-brained type, “The Artist Way”, written by Julia Cameron is an excellent book that will help you rediscover your creative self. Originally this started as a collection of tips and hints from different artists and authors. Julia Cameron then collected them into a single book and published a set of helpful methods for maximizing the creativity and productivity of artists.

Rediscovering your creative self is a journey not unlike becoming involved in Social Media. We don’t have to be experts in all of the tools at once. Take the time to learn, listen and explore each tool before you jump in. Think you must have a Facebook Fan page NOW! Do your research first and see how other artists utilize the medium.
