I've been going through some old bookmarks and ran across this post from Seth Godin's alternate MBA class from 2 years ago. Ok perhaps it's a touch dated, but the ideas are timely and fun. Who knows? If one decides to leave the Advertising racket they may very well find inspiration here.

He Bought a shirt on Twitter.

Edward Boches writes of his recent experience with a salesman at Nordstrom's Department store. I’m pretty sure this is what combining social media, customer service and sales is supposed to be about.

I’m standing at the counter in Nordstrom’s when my iPhone beeps. The person ringing (do we even say that anymore) up my purchase says, “Hey, you got an iPhone?  I got an iPhone. What apps do you use?”Anxious to be on my way and not wanting to get all that conversational I answer, “Mostly just Twitter,” figuring maybe that’ll end the conversation.

Instead he says, “Hey, I’m on Twitter. Ever use TwitPic?”
“Yes.”
“Great, if you want, I’ll TwitPic your favorite brand of shirts when they come in and DM them to you so you can get first pick.”
“Really?” (Now I’m less anxious to skedaddle.)
“Sure, follow me.  I’m @NordstromDave.”

Friday- How to sell a turkey burger and a little bit more

It's hard selling burgers, let alone burgers made from turkey. How many chicken, clown, king ideas are out there? Here's a new take with Miss Turkey (really, I'm serious).

 

Like umpteen other apps, Color lets you snap and share photos and videos. But instead of sharing them with people you specify, it shares them with people near you-and if those people are using the Color app to capture stuff, you can see it, too. It all happens in real time in one shared stream, without anyone involved having to do anything except shoot photos.
