Congratulations to the APA 2011 Photography Competition winners. There is a lot of really nice beautiful work here. What I can't figure out is why there weren't any winners from Detroit? Doesn't anyone here belong to APA? Do you have to belong to APA to enter? Are we afraid to enter or do we not see the value of entering national competitions. Or maybe we just don't want to spend the money? At any rate, I can think of half a dozen Detroit/ Michigan photographers who have images as good if not better than the winners. And why do a couple of photographers win in more than one category? Are their images that good? Was there a lack of depth in the entries for those categories? Take a look at the awards list and judge for yourself. One image that clearly deserved its award was Best of Show by Saverio Truglia. I love this image. Lighting, composition and color palette all work together and tell a great short story. And the use of the PAN AM logo was a brainwave. Take a peek below.
However I digress. Let’s get back to my original question. Why aren't there any winners from Detroit/ Michigan? I'm interested to know if anyone has opinions or thoughts on this. Anyone?
